Greystone aquires new book on fracking by Andrew Nikiforuk

Greystone Books announces that it will publish the book Slick Water: Fracking and One Insider's Stand against the World's Most Powerful Industry by award-winning writer Andrew Nikiforuk. The book reveals the shocking and powerful story of Jessica Ernst’s legal stand to hold government and industry accountable for the damage fracking leaves in its wake.

After energy giant Encana secretly fracked hundreds of gas wells in fresh water zones around her home, biologist Jessica Ernst,  a long-time oil patch consultant, launched a lawsuit against Encana and two government regulators, alleging negligence and a breach of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Rob Sanders, publisher of Greystone Books, says of Slick Water: “By placing an incredible human story at the centre of the hotly debated technology of fracking worldwide, Andrew Nikiforuk reveals how an industry driven by profit runs rough-shod over human values and resource sustainability, enabled by the very agencies set up to regulate it”.

Andrew Nikiforuk is the author of Saboteurs, winner of Canada’s Governor General’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction. He is also the author of Tar Sands, for which he won the prestigious Rachel Carson Environment Book Award presented by the U.S.-based Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ).

Greystone Books will publish Slick Water in Fall 2015.
